#SaturdayMorningTunes Vol.2

FullSizeRender-3-e1449329508489.jpg

Happy Saturday! It's #SaturdayMorningTunes day again and I must say that I am loving Jazmine Sullivan's new album, but I promise I won't shared the whole album -- just snippets. Aside from her 'Mascara' track which I share on Instagram she has a couple more solid tracks that are worth listening to. But Ms. Sullivan has not been taking up ALL of my time. Here's some more tracks that i've been vibin' to this week. I hope that you enjoy them.

Have a great long weekend and happy listening!

xxo,

AGamine

Music Alert: Have You Heard Lion Babe Yet?

lion_babe_1575.jpg

Having relationships with other bloggers is so important. So I must give a shout out to, fellow blogger, @M3llowYellow for reminding me to keep my ears to the streets and dropping New York's music duo Lion Babe into my iMessages with a simple, "Have you heard Lion Babe yet?"

Immediately I hit my two favorite places, SoundCloud and Spotify and I was  put into a trance that only some of the best neo-soul artists could induce me to and buzzed through the crowd of New York after work commuters unbothered.

Lion Babe is a music duo our of New York that consists of lead singer Jillian Hervey (daughter of Vanessa Williams) and producer Lucas Goodman and I am really feeling what they are putting out.

After watching their Jungle Lady video, shared below, all I could think about was raspy notes waxed over basement buzzing wah-wahs and beats of  Erykah Badu and J Dilla's magic on 'Didn't Cha Know' and I immediately added it to my playlist mix on Spotify.

Happy Listening!

xxo,

A.Gamine

Montauk Selfie

IMG_0439.jpg

"Just a reminder that you're whole without someone else. You are not a fraction. You're a complete master piece all by yourself and you do not need anyone else to validate your existence. " Socializing and meeting people are some of my favorite things to do, but moments of solitude are always very important to me. The older that I am becoming the more I find myself fighting for  a good #selfie moment aka me time. Moving to New York has been one of the most daring decisions that I've ever made in my life.  And everyday that I am alive, since moving here, I have to remind myself why that was one of the best decisions of my life. That decision is a constant reminder of how important it is to push myself, to be willing to compromise within reason, to share, to be open to new experiences, to build meaningful relationships with others and to be just as active in building one with myself.

With that reminder I can whole heartedly say I really enjoy family time, friend time, beau time, but most importantly I really enjoy a good selfie time. Why? Because life is fleeting, important life events are happening more rapidly, I love myself and I like doing me ish! And what better way am I to get in tune with who I am becoming everyday than to be vain every now and then, find a place or experience that looks good to me, and take a selfie to get a good look at the beautifully flawed masterpiece that I am evolving into.

So a few weeks ago I took a selfie to Montauk and treated myself to dinner, a movie, quiet time, a run and a couple of selfies on the beach.

Have you taken a selfie lately? I know I have and I highly recommend it.

Do it for yourself!

xxo,

Agamine

Ramen Around town: 7 best places to get a good ramen fix

IMG_4816.jpg

Hello good people! I don't know about you, but I love ramen and there is nothing like discovering some really good ramen. Now for those of you who are not familiar; I am not talking about those ramen packets that you get at your local grocery for a few cents. Those things are like instant macaroni to real macaroni that is oozing with real cheeses and baked in an oven with love.  I just had a moment. Sue me. --Wait what was I talking about? Oh, yeah ramen.  Ramen is a type of Japaneese noodle soup dish that varies with different types of homemade broths, veggies, meats and honestly whatever kind of seasoning you can imagine. On a side note I once tried my hand as Chef  Boyardty (you see what I did there)  and made what I called Jamasian Ramen. Which was basically my West-Indian twist on the traditional Japaneese dish and I must say that it was spicy, but pretty darn good! (Don't worry I will share my recipe at a later time) If you are in the New York area and would love to try out what I think are some really good ramen spots, that won't break the bank, here are a few places worth checking out:

1. Ise Menkui Tei - (W 56th & Avenue of the Americas)

2. Hide-Chan (E 52nd & 7th Avenue)

3. Minca (E 5th & Avenue B)

4. Totto ( W 52nd & 8th Avenue)

5. Tabata (W 42nd & 9th Avenue)

6. Bossanava ( Canal & Mott Street)

7. Ippudo (E 10th Street &  Cooper Square)

Happy slurping!

xxo,

A.Gamine

Hello Brooklyn...

IMG_0181.jpg

There's nothing like a relaxing weekend catching up with some girlfriends.  Sometimes I find myself getting so caught up in the hustle and bustle of the city that I forget to just let go and to go with the flow. And I must say that in doing so I somehow managed to get everything  I didn't know that I needed by meeting up with friends, hopping on the train and heading to Brooklyn. I guess the old saying has proven itself to be true.."No expectations, no disappointments" I hope you had a great Saturday because I know that I did.

xxo,

Agamine

Silvana ( 116th & Frederick Douglas Blvd)

CURRENT OBSESSION: Black Walls

image1.jpg

For anyone who knows me knows that I'm pretty easy going, but I am particular about certain things and my home and one of them. Since I was a kid I've always had an obsession with wall colors. I remember when I was in high school I begged my parents to let me paint my room "sunshine" yellow. Once they gave me the okay Home Depot was my favorite place. Color swatches, tape, textured brushes and wall papers, flat, high gloss, egg shell and semi gloss paints. Obsessed. And that's pretty much been my source of creativity since then. My dorm room;semi decked out, my first apartment; I channelled my inner Carrie B. with Benjamin Moore's electric blue walls. My second place; I channeled my inner Betsy Johnson with Behrs charcoal grey walls with some uh ooh paint in the shade of petobismol pink for my running accent wall. And more recently I've got a jones in my bones for black walls and after a little research it seems as though interior designers are having this jones too! As you know I just moved and I definitely have some bare walls that are calling my name and I'm thinking black in high gloss! It sounds pretty gothic, but trust me it screams "chic!" Click through the pics and tell me what you think.

#TBTunes: Frank Ocean x Lonny Breaux Collection

frankocean.jpg

It's Throwback Thursday (#tbt) and I've been listening to a lot of Frank Ocean this week. Maybe it's because he's pulled an Andre 3000 on me. But in the essence of #tbt and my love for music -- here's a complication of the old Frank, Lonny Breaux, pre Nostalgia Ultra in his mixtape/producer portfolio titled The Lonny Breaux Collection. On the lineup you can hear some of the tracks that he's written for John Legend and Brandy, Justin Bieber and Mateo and for some of you who really pay attention to music and background sounds, like I do, you will hear some of his background media contributions to some tracks on Watch the Throne and Beyonce's latest album.

All in all if you're not interested in samples and more into good music join me in listening to the compilation.

Happy #tbt and enjoy the tunes!

xxo,

A.Gamine
