The contradiction is: I do fight for artists, but in that fight I somehow was disrespectful to artists. I didn't know how to say the right thing, the perfect thing. I just... I sat at the Grammys and saw Justin Timberlake and Cee-Lo lose. Gnarls Barkley and the Future Sex album... Justin, I ain't trying to put you on blast but I saw that man in tears, bro. And I was thinking like, he deserves to win album of the year. And this small box that we are in as the entertainers of the evening. How could you explain that? Sometimes I feel like, you know, all this bullshit that they run about beef and all that, sometimes I feel like I died for the artist's opinion. For the artists to be able to have an opinion after they were successful. I'm not no politician, bro. And look at that. You know how many times MTV ran that footage again? So after listening to Tamia' s latest album, Love Life, I was reminded what's been missing in my life and it's R&B. Can we please bring it back?! I've scoured all of soundcloud looking for mixes and tracks of some of my favorites; Faith Evans, Monica,Tamia, Janet Jackson, Erykah Badu, Brandy, Aaliyah, Carl Thomas, Joe, SWV, Tevin Campbell, Musiq Soulchild the list goes on, but the pickings were slim. Note to self: "If you build it, they will come"...you gotta learn how to mix your own tracks.
This week's edition of #SaturdayMorningTunes is dedicated to R&B and hopefully ya'll appreciate the genre as much as I do because I'm anticipating a comeback. (Hello Miguel, Tamia and Janet Jackson!)

It's been one heck of a week and I honestly don't have a lot to say or share today other than music because my heart is heavy. Since the last #SaturdayMorningTunes edition a lot of events have reminded me that there are people out there who just hate people. Most of them don't even know the people that they hate by name, but simply because they are not like them they disenfranchise, brutalize, discriminate and sometimes kill those who are black, gay, christian, muslim, female, poor --the list goes on. It's disheartening and it's heavy.
Compassion and understanding is something that has been instilled in me and that is what I will continue to practice during these hateful times. But it bothers me to know that people hate and kill other people for being different. People don't deserve to be stripped of their rights because of who they are, nor should people have to die because they are misunderstood.
If you have an ounce of hate in your mind about any group of people I would like to ask you to do some serious soul searching and if you are a victim of hate I wish you inner peace and strength.

Mercury is finally out of Retrograde and this shift wrecked havoc EVERYWHERE. Aside from retrograde, this week has taught me a lot about patience, compassion and what it means to love others despite their craziness. From that person who doesn't share the pole on the train during rush hour to David Eric --the officer in McKinney, TX to for Rachel Dolezal to just learning to have patience with myself.
Life is all about experiences and not all of them will be the most pleasant, but growth is inevitable and the ultimate goal for me is freedom. Looking at life from a different perspective helps and that is why I chose this quote by Bell Hooks. If only people would begin to love people for who they are and not the idea of them will we finally all become free. There would be less police brutality, less dysfunctional relationships and more understanding.
searching for beauty and freedom. i found it in compassion.
