#SaturdayMorningTunes vol 8

FullSizeRender-3-e1449329508489.jpg

I prefer to unwind by DJing. I learned that from Mike D from the Beastie Boys. After the show, he would DJ. Once I saw that. I wanted to do that. And now DJing is my lifeline. I love the power it represents.  - ?uest Love

Happy Saturday People!

Thank you all for tuning in to this week's session of #SaturdayMorningTunes. Something has been resonating on my heart a lot lately and I would just like to share it with you. As many of you may know, life can be hard and there are many things that can pull you away from your purpose and weigh you down, but there are many things that can motivate you and free you. --find those things and latch onto them with all that you have.  That is why I chose ?uest's quote to share with you. Well that and because I'm heading to the Roots Picnic today. Lol But no seriously,  surround yourself with people who have found their freedom in doing something that they love and let their energy inspire you to find yours.

Figure out your lifeline, build it and latch on to it.

*cues Disclosure ft. Sam Smith - Disclosure*

Here's a mix of the music that I'm feeling lately. I hope that you all enjoy it.

Thanks for tuning in!

xxo

Mashable News: A guide to the Ferguson case

Michael-Brown-Funeral1.jpg

Any day now, a grand jury will decide whether to indict Ferguson officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of Michael Brown. Wilson fired several shots at 18-year-old Brown on Aug. 9, leading to riots in the St. Louis suburb. Wilson has been on paid leave since the shooting. Meanwhile, protesters calling for his arrest have become a permanent fixture in Ferguson. On Monday, Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon declared a state of emergency ahead of the decision.

Montauk Selfie

IMG_0439.jpg

"Just a reminder that you're whole without someone else. You are not a fraction. You're a complete master piece all by yourself and you do not need anyone else to validate your existence. " Socializing and meeting people are some of my favorite things to do, but moments of solitude are always very important to me. The older that I am becoming the more I find myself fighting for  a good #selfie moment aka me time. Moving to New York has been one of the most daring decisions that I've ever made in my life.  And everyday that I am alive, since moving here, I have to remind myself why that was one of the best decisions of my life. That decision is a constant reminder of how important it is to push myself, to be willing to compromise within reason, to share, to be open to new experiences, to build meaningful relationships with others and to be just as active in building one with myself.

With that reminder I can whole heartedly say I really enjoy family time, friend time, beau time, but most importantly I really enjoy a good selfie time. Why? Because life is fleeting, important life events are happening more rapidly, I love myself and I like doing me ish! And what better way am I to get in tune with who I am becoming everyday than to be vain every now and then, find a place or experience that looks good to me, and take a selfie to get a good look at the beautifully flawed masterpiece that I am evolving into.

So a few weeks ago I took a selfie to Montauk and treated myself to dinner, a movie, quiet time, a run and a couple of selfies on the beach.

Have you taken a selfie lately? I know I have and I highly recommend it.

Do it for yourself!

xxo,

Agamine

CURRENT OBSESSION: Black Walls

image1.jpg

For anyone who knows me knows that I'm pretty easy going, but I am particular about certain things and my home and one of them. Since I was a kid I've always had an obsession with wall colors. I remember when I was in high school I begged my parents to let me paint my room "sunshine" yellow. Once they gave me the okay Home Depot was my favorite place. Color swatches, tape, textured brushes and wall papers, flat, high gloss, egg shell and semi gloss paints. Obsessed. And that's pretty much been my source of creativity since then. My dorm room;semi decked out, my first apartment; I channelled my inner Carrie B. with Benjamin Moore's electric blue walls. My second place; I channeled my inner Betsy Johnson with Behrs charcoal grey walls with some uh ooh paint in the shade of petobismol pink for my running accent wall. And more recently I've got a jones in my bones for black walls and after a little research it seems as though interior designers are having this jones too! As you know I just moved and I definitely have some bare walls that are calling my name and I'm thinking black in high gloss! It sounds pretty gothic, but trust me it screams "chic!" Click through the pics and tell me what you think.

Grand Opening Grand Closing: Resources that can help you find your new place in NYC

uhaul.jpg

After a year and a half of living in my place in New York the time has come for me to spread my wings and move. Moving has always been a very traumatic experience for me. Even when it is to be expected. However this time it is not. I was totally blindsided, but the silver lining in this move is; a bigger newer place, laundry in my building and 2 express trains! I'm moving on up! Literally.Let's be real moving in New York no matter what time of year sucks, but it really sucks when you have to move in late summer. This time of the year, although the weather is nice, is the most expensive and most competitive. But there are tricks and savvy ways to makes it happen and hopefully makes it as less stressful as possible. Here's some of the resources that I used.

1. Craigslist 2. NYC bits 3. Alumni Circles 4. Word of mouth around the office 5. Friends 6. Fee and No Fee brokers; whichever fits your budget or preference. 7. Walking around and asking tenants about openings in places that you want to live. 8. Community organization offices and local church 9. Local papers (New York Times, the Village Voice, the Daily News,El Diario and the Jewish Press) 10. HUD.gov- affordable housing

If you find yourself living in NYC and you need to move sooner rather than later: take a deep breath, say a quick prayer, reach out to everyone and get to exploring your surroundings! I hope that these resources are helpful even if they only serve as a reminder.

Happy hunting and good luck!

A Gamine

p.s. Always remember, to cast your net wide. You can never have too many options in NYC.
