5 Video's from Christianee Porter That Will Make You Laugh

Christianee-Porter-e1468296163507.jpg

Last week was a rough one, but Christianee Porter and the characters on her Instagram page offered a silver lining, on Saturday, that lifted my spirits and had me laughing from my soul. Christianee Porter is a singer, songwriter, author and actress that is currently residing in Atlanta and has been performing since the age of eight. It's apparent that she is truly gifted because I couldn't tell that she was portraying a southern aunt character that was concerned about her niece that had become a victim of the waist training trend. (video is included)

Christianee has created a couple dozen characters, but the Ms. Shirleen character has me constantly checking her page. Ms. Shirleen embodies a lot of women that I know and love back home. A sweet southern aunt that has been through a few things, but loves the church and always offers heartfelt advice that can be mistaken by an outsider as pure comedy.

Here are 5 times Ms. Shirleen offered advice / showed you how to react when dealing with people.

  1. When you're thinking about getting a waist trainer

  2. A video posted by Christianee (@thechristishow) on Jul 8, 2016 at 11:16am PDT

  3. How to keep the faith when SalleMae and your haters try to keep you down

  4. A video posted by Christianee (@thechristishow) on Jun 9, 2016 at 8:14am PDT

  5. What to say when someone asks you where your clothing item came from

  6. A video posted by Christianee (@thechristishow) on Mar 30, 2016 at 11:51am PDT

  7. Advice on how to grow luxurious edges

  8. A video posted by Christianee (@thechristishow) on May 1, 2016 at 7:40pm PDT

  9. How to give back to your community and what to do when you're going into the enemy's camp

  10. A video posted by Christianee (@thechristishow) on Jun 13, 2016 at 12:08pm PDT

9 Reasons February 2016 is the Blackest Black History Month Ever

blackish.png

For a while now Black History Month has come and gone quietly, but something magical has happened in 2016. Celebrating blackness was reactivated. Entertainers and the media all stepped up to the plate and started showing that they too were tired and ready to use their art to show the world blackness and I have thoroughly enjoyed celebrating every moment of it. From Beyonce's Formation, Kendrick's grammy performance to ABC Family's sitcom Black-ish candidly addressing police brutality. In my lifetime, this by far has been the blackest Black History Month ever. Here are 9 reasons February 2016 is the blackest Black History Month ever:

1. Beyonce' dropping an unexpected song and video titled, Formation.

2. Beyonce's Superbowl half-time performance.

3. Charlamange tha God's Donkey of the Day, Tomi Lahren.

4. PBS Black Panther documentary.

5. Kendrick Lamar's Grammy performance.

6. Barack Obama's "Hey, girl," at the White House moment.

7. That one time black girls went to bat for Ugandan model,Aamito Lagum, when MAC cosmetics posted her lips on their IG handle, during NYFW. Double taps and positive comments followed the racist ones. #blackgirlmagic

8. When Virgina McLaurin, 106 year old woman visited the White House to meet Barack and Michelle.

9. AND my personal favorite is from ABC Family TV show, Black-ish. This the episode titled, "Hope", the family candidly have a discussion about police brutality in America.

Inspiration: The Undercut Gawds x #thecutlife

agamine.com-1.png

She had hair so long that it looked like weave, now she cut it all off now she look like Eve.. - Kanye

So after being so gun-ho about going through the grooling process of growing my hair back out; I have been given the gift and the curse of finding and becoming obsessed with #thecutlife 's Instagram feed.

The cut life is a beauty and lifestyle brand, created by Tahira Joy Wright and Garmai K. Momolu, that appreciates the beauty of women who rock short hair. If you're looking for some beautiful fearless and sassy ladies to randomly bless your IG feed you should definitely give @thecutlife your follow or if you're non committal give them your occasional insta-stalk time.

Back to the story.. As a result of following their feed I've been inspired to rock a wavy bob cut and then after seeing this and this I took to clippers on my lunch break and committed to the undercut life and shaved off my sides and I am not going back! Im with #thecutlife FOREVER!... well until I'm itching for something new. On second thought I already have a color itch.. Maybe I'll just free myself soon and go purple or maybe finally give into the grey itch that I've been wanting to try.

Here are a few images I managed to round up in my Pinterest that pushed me over the edge to pull the trigger and commit to the scissors!

So about a week ago, the ladies over at shopdoku.com connected my with one of their designers, Adrina Fanore, and I was given access to attend and try my hand playing photographer at Fashion Envie 2015, presented by Beau Monde Society, at a swanky venue called Lightbox.

This year, Fashion Envie featured designers; Adrina Fanore of  the Adrina Fanore Collection, Alita Daniels of the Silly Simone Collection, Robin Dameshe Shumays of the Henna Flower Collection and Jennifer Nnamani, founder of Beau Monde Society and designer of Lady George.

5 Great Ways to Put Your Tax Return to Good Use

money.jpg

It's that time of the year again. You've gotten you're W-2 form, you're e-mail inbox is being flooded by tax preparers and if you've paid a substantial amount of taxes throughout the year, many of you will be getting a tax return. Like me, you've probably had your eyes on that new big purchase you haven't been quite able to justify adding into your current budget, but don't be weak. Let's strive to be great and prepare for a better future and invest in yourself and your future for the longterm. Want to be smarter about how you spend your tax return this year? Here's a list of 5 ways you can put your tax return to good use and make your money work for you.

Invest in yourself

If you have a knack or interest in something like a new hobby; writing, T-shirt business, photography, dancing, real estate. Try using your tax return to invest in your next idea. A few hundred dollars may not seem like a lot to kickstart something new, but just think about it. A couple hundred to a thousand dollars can build a website,  purchase a press machine or design software, a decent camera and dance and real estate classes. Although there could be risks in branching out to something new or potentially failing; the possibilities are limitless. If you're not investing in yourself how can you expect someone else to?

Just start your retirement savings

Unless you come from a legacy family that has generational wealth, retirement is something that you must save up for and if you plan to retire comfortably you have to plan and commit to making it an investment of priority. There are tons of ways to save for it, but I am only gonna talk about what I know first hand.

- 401(k)

One way to make your tax return work for your retirement future is to put the money into your 401(k) account. Although technically you can not deposit the money into your account directly; you can speak to members of you HR department and ask them about an option to match your refund and have that amount diverted out of your monthly paycheck and into your 401(k) account and use your tax refund to pay your monthly bills.

-IRA (Individual Retirement Account)

If you don't have a 401(k) you can use your tax refund to buy low funds in an IRA. There are tons of tax incentives for taking this route. Most people who invest in IRAs usually talk to bank/ financial advisors at their banking institutions for information.

Start saving for college

Many of you are rounding the last curve of your twenties and with that comes milestones; advanced degrees, promotions, engagements, marriages, first home purchases and having your first child. Another way to invest your tax return is to put the return into a 529 College Savings plan. A 529 Savings plan is a plan that is operated by a state or an educational institution that was created by the IRS to help families set aside money to invest in their family's college education. There are many benefits, tax incentives and a few other perks. If you'd like to know more about the 529 College Savings plan click here.

Buy a great experience

One of the best things you could ever do for yourself is to treat yourself, but I'm not talking about buying a new toy or trinket. One of the best and most rewarding things I've ever done for myself is purchase my passport and a round trip flight for a 10 day 6 city excursion through Italy.  Your tax return could fund your next escape,  your work ctrl + alt + delete or your next Ms. Frizzle educational excursion. Get a passport, buy a ticket, put your new hobby to work in another country and meet new people. Who knows, if your new interest was writing; now you'll have something to blog about.

Pay down your student loans

Some of you are blessed enough to have had your education paid for while others have gone to college and have debt the size of a home mortgage.  I have a really good girl friend who just recently received a congratulatory letter in the mail for paying the complete balance of her student loans and she's only 26. When I asked her how she'd done it so quickly, she said she'd used every tax refund, holiday work bonus and monthly payments for the past 5 years. Have you ever thought about using your tax return to pay off your student loans? I must admit the thought never occurred to me until that day.

Set it aside for a down payment

Have you ever scrolled through Pinterest or Tumblr and found yourself homelusting? (yes, I made that up. Sue me.)  Do you ever daydream about what your dream home would look like? The open floor plan, the floors, the number of rooms, the immaculate organized boudoir of a closet, the kitchen and the appliances, the furniture. I. AM. HAVING. A. MOMENT.-- but you get my drift. I know that I do. After two years of having roommates in New York City, I often times find myself getting lost in the idea of having a home to myself again and I'm sure that many twenty somethings, like you and I, living in major cities, often think about the sacrifices we will have to make to have those dreams become realities. So why not take your tax refund and sit it in a savings account and allow it to accrue interest until it's time to make that purchase?

With age and experience finding new ways to invest into my future and making my money work for me is becoming more and more of a priority than before. I am finding financial security and happiness are slowly replacing my urge to use my tax refund to buy designer shoes or to be blown doing frivolous things. Finding new books about investing and listening to my peers talk about what they do to save, purchase and travel excites me and gives me hope in knowing that I'm on the right track or that I can do better. Becoming a responsible adult is changing me and I am excited about it and I hope that you are too!

Are there any readers out there that have any suggestions to add to this list? I'd love for you to share.

Happy saving!

xxo,

AGamine

Happy New Year

IMG_1912-1.jpg

Happy New Year everyone! I've been away getting rest and spending some much needed time with my family and friends, but I wanted to share with you the well wishes of Neil Gaiman. These words were shared in were shared in his self titled journal titled, As I Was Saying.

May your coming year be filled with magic and dreams and good madness. I hope you read some fine books and kiss someone who thinks you're wonderful, and don't forget to make some art -- write or draw or build or sing or live as only you can. And I hope, somewhere in the next year, you surprise yourself.

Happy New Year! And I look forward to sharing more with you in 2015.

xxo,

A.Gamine

Solidarity?...

IMG_1570.jpg

There is an outcry for justice and I am happy to report that it has no color. Over the past few months America has been waiting for the decisions of two major cases that involves the deaths of black males and the possible use of excessive force by the police. And in the last two weeks two decisions have been made to not indict the two police officers in both cases for various reasons and people are upset. In the beginning I was starting to think that maybe this was turning into a black versus white matter, but I am happy to report, at least in New York, that the black community is not the only community that is outraged. And for the first time I feel like there is a degree of solidarity and that there are citizens in this country that are holding up their promise of allegiance to the United States and the Republic and what it has promised to stand for when it was adopted by Congress in 1942. So here is a reminder of  what was promised to us for being a citizen of the United States of America.

I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America,

and to the Republic for which it stands,

one Nation under God, indivisible,

with liberty and justice for all.

Happy safe and peaceful protesting everyone.

xxo,

Agamine

Mashable News: A guide to the Ferguson case

Michael-Brown-Funeral1.jpg

Any day now, a grand jury will decide whether to indict Ferguson officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of Michael Brown. Wilson fired several shots at 18-year-old Brown on Aug. 9, leading to riots in the St. Louis suburb. Wilson has been on paid leave since the shooting. Meanwhile, protesters calling for his arrest have become a permanent fixture in Ferguson. On Monday, Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon declared a state of emergency ahead of the decision.

CURRENT OBSESSION: Black Walls

image1.jpg

For anyone who knows me knows that I'm pretty easy going, but I am particular about certain things and my home and one of them. Since I was a kid I've always had an obsession with wall colors. I remember when I was in high school I begged my parents to let me paint my room "sunshine" yellow. Once they gave me the okay Home Depot was my favorite place. Color swatches, tape, textured brushes and wall papers, flat, high gloss, egg shell and semi gloss paints. Obsessed. And that's pretty much been my source of creativity since then. My dorm room;semi decked out, my first apartment; I channelled my inner Carrie B. with Benjamin Moore's electric blue walls. My second place; I channeled my inner Betsy Johnson with Behrs charcoal grey walls with some uh ooh paint in the shade of petobismol pink for my running accent wall. And more recently I've got a jones in my bones for black walls and after a little research it seems as though interior designers are having this jones too! As you know I just moved and I definitely have some bare walls that are calling my name and I'm thinking black in high gloss! It sounds pretty gothic, but trust me it screams "chic!" Click through the pics and tell me what you think.
